EMERALD BOOKS

An experienced team dedicated to bringing your vision to life

Dr. Jessica Hammerman

Dr. Jessica Hammerman holds a PhD in history, and she has two decades of experience editing for writers of all kinds—academic, non-fiction, fiction, and textbooks. She has worked as an editor for Penguin Putnam and W.W. Norton, and has also served as a copyeditor for several national magazines, including Condé Nast Traveler, Time Out New York, and Playbill

Testimonial: As a writer seeking an excellent and highly professional editor, I could not be more pleased with Jessica Hammerman.  As a business writer, I was delighted to work with someone who understood the voice I wanted in the final product. In addition, her knowledge of APA and citation gave me a high level of confidence that my work would be viewed as thoughtful, thorough and credible.  Editors are critical team members in this demanding process, and the additional depth Jessica brought beyond the standard editing process of grammar, format and voice added much value to the work. Highly recommended.

Isaac Peterson

With twenty years of experience in digital design, art, and book layout, Isaac is the heart of Emerald Design Co. He has designed books and built websites for authors of fiction, faith books, science fiction, and textbooks in subjects ranging from technology, health, and blockchain. He has published books for himself and other authors. With an MFA in fine art, he brings an artistic eye to all of his design and photography projects.

Testimonial: My first six books were published by major publishers so when I decided to publish my seventh independently, I knew I would need help. The staff at Cup and Quill went above and beyond and were so professional and understanding. They say “don’t judge a book by the cover,” but the cover of my new book, A Midwife’s Song: Oh Freedom, designed by Cup and Quill artist, Isaac Peterson, will definitely help with sales.
Thanks everyone. Patricia Harman CNM, MS, midwife and author. www.patriciaharman.com

Julie Swearingen

Julie Swearingen is Emerald’s marketing coordinator living in beautiful Bend, Oregon. She previously lived in Portland, where she completed a master’s degree in book publishing from Portland State University and has worked for several publishers, including Overcup Press. She enjoys reading in all genres, with a particular love of memoir, young adult, and new adult fiction. In addition to her editing and marketing work, she is the events manager at an indie bookstore in Bend and would happily live in the bookstore if they would let her.

More About Julie: I have an extensive media list covering every genre and topic of book and media outlet. During most publicity campaigns, I will reach out to 200-400 contacts regarding reviews, book features, or author interviews. I am also a proponent of building a social media network of writers and authors as potential reviewers for authors. I’ve been working with authors for several years, building their networks into the thousands, as a platform to attract agents, publishers, and readers. Coaching sessions include social media support, social media training, light graphic design support for social media, brainstorming for review outreach within an author’s personal network, and any general support an author may need. quailrun.co
